Looking after it

Clean with mild soap and water and dry before restacking. Let shoes dry fully before boxing them, because a damp shoe in a closed box stays damp.

Fold Flat When EmptyStore the spares without losing the space

Twelve clear boxes that stack into a shoe tower.

Foldable plastic shoe containers with snap-tight clasps, a clear front and rear ventilation, so you can see the pair you want without unstacking the pile.

Twelve boxes arrive in the set, which is usually a whole household's everyday shoes rather than a starter pack.

The front is clear, so you find the pair you want by looking instead of opening six lids.

Four snap-tight clasps on the base lock each box onto the one beneath it, so a stack behaves like one unit.

Large ventilation holes at the back let air move through, which is what stops boxed shoes smelling shut in.

They fold flat when they are empty, so the ones you are not using take almost no space.

Shoe Storage Box

Shoe Storage Box

The clasps are what make a stack usable rather than precarious. Four of them on the base of each box lock into the lid of the one below, so the column moves as one piece instead of sliding apart when you pull the bottom box open.

Shoe Storage Box

Ventilation is the part people notice a month in. Shoes carry moisture from the day you wore them, and a sealed container keeps it there. The large holes at the back of each box let air move through, so the pair you open in three weeks smells like shoes rather than a cupboard.

Folding flat matters more than it sounds. Most shoe storage is bought in one go and used gradually, and rigid boxes you are not using yet take up exactly as much room empty as full. These collapse until you need them.

They are not only for shoes. The same box suits scarves, gloves, small toys, craft supplies and games, and because the front is clear the contents are as findable as the shoes were.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send it back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many boxes are in the set?

Twelve. They are all the same size, so they stack squarely on top of each other.

What is a shoe storage box?

It is a container sized for a pair of shoes, with a clear front so you can see what is inside. Stacked together they turn a pile of shoes into a tidy tower.

How do the boxes stack?

Four snap-tight clasps on the base of each box lock into the box below. That is what keeps a stack behaving like one unit instead of sliding apart.

Do the boxes come in different sizes?

No. All twelve boxes in this set are the same size. If you need a taller container for knee-high boots, this is not the right product for those.

Can I see the shoes without opening the box?

Yes, the front is clear. That is the main reason to use boxes rather than bags: you find the pair by looking.

How do I open a box in the middle of a stack?

The front opens with a pull handle, so you can reach into a box without lifting the ones above it off.

Will my shoes go stale shut in a box?

There are large ventilation holes at the back of each box for exactly that reason. Air moves through, so shoes stay fresh. Let damp shoes dry before you box them.

What shoes will fit?

Everyday footwear: heels, flats, trainers, flip-flops, sandals and wedges. Tall boots are the usual thing that will not fit.

Are they sturdy?

The plastic is shatterproof and made to be stacked, so the boxes hold their shape under the weight of the ones above.

Do they fold away when not in use?

Yes, they are foldable and collapse flat, so spare boxes do not take up the space they were bought to save.

Are they waterproof?

The plastic is rated waterproof, which is useful in a hallway or a garage where a damp floor is a possibility.

Can I use them for anything other than shoes?

Yes. Scarves, gloves, small toys, books, games and craft supplies all work, and the clear front makes them easy to identify.

Will they fit under a bed?

Individually they are shallow enough for most under-bed spaces. Measure your clearance first, since divan bases vary a lot.

Can I stack them in a wardrobe?

Yes, that is one of the common uses. Stack to the height of the hanging rail so nothing has to be moved to reach the top box.

How high can I stack them?

High enough that the top box is still comfortably in reach. The clasps keep the column together, but a stack taller than you should not be pulled at from the bottom.

Are they suitable for travel?

No, these are home storage boxes. They are rigid when assembled and are not designed to go in a suitcase.

How do I clean them?

Mild soap and water, then dry them before restacking. That is all they need.

Can I write on them or label them?

The front is clear so labels are rarely needed, but a removable label on the end works if you stack them side on.

Do they protect shoes from dust?

Yes, that is the main protection they offer. A closed box keeps dust off in a way an open rack cannot.

Will they keep shoes from being crushed?

The boxes hold their shape when stacked, so shoes inside are not taking the weight of the pile the way they would loose on a shelf.

Do they smell of plastic when new?

New plastic can have a faint smell. Leaving the boxes open for a day before use clears it.

Can I use them in a garage or shed?

Yes. They are waterproof and shatterproof, which suits a garage better than a cardboard box does.

Are they see-through on all sides?

The front is the clear panel you look through. That is the face to have outwards when you stack them.

How much do they weigh?

They are light. The set arrives folded flat, which is also why the parcel is smaller than twelve assembled boxes would suggest.

Do they come assembled?

They arrive folded and snap together without tools, which takes moments per box.

Will the clasps wear out?

They are designed for repeated use. Snapping them closed squarely rather than forcing a corner is what keeps them working.

Can children open them?

Yes, the pull handle is simple to operate, so these are not a way to keep anything away from children.

Is twelve enough for one person?

For most people it is more than enough for the shoes in regular use, and the spare boxes fold flat until a season changes.

How long does delivery take?

Five to seven days across the UK. Delivery is free on orders over £75 and £25 otherwise, so this set qualifies for free delivery on its own.

Can I return them if they are the wrong size for my shoes?

Yes. They are a stock item, so you have the full 14 day right to change your mind, and your faulty goods rights are separate.

Turning a pile of shoes into a stack you can use

4 min read SpaceSaver

Why shoes end up in a pile

Shoe storage fails for a reason that has nothing to do with capacity. Put shoes away in a closed cupboard and you stop being able to see them, so you stop putting them away, and within a week they are back by the door.

Anything that solves it has to keep the shoes visible and keep them off the floor at the same time. A clear box does both, which is why it works where a nice-looking cupboard does not.

Stacking that holds together

A stack of plain boxes is a bad idea. Pull the bottom one and the column shifts, and eventually the whole thing goes over.

The four clasps on the base of each box lock into the one below, so the stack behaves as a single object. That is what makes the pull-handle front usable: you can open a box in the middle without lifting off everything above it.

Two practical points. Stack no higher than you can comfortably reach, because the clasps keep the column together but they do not make it sensible to tug at the bottom of a tower above head height. And keep the clear face outwards, or you have built a stack of boxes you cannot see into.

Ventilation is not a detail

This is the difference between a shoe box and a sealed container, and it is worth understanding before you fill twelve of them.

A shoe carries moisture from the day it was worn. Seal that in and it stays. Three weeks later you open the box to a smell, and in a bad case to mildew on the lining.

The large holes at the back let air move through the box, which handles normal everyday damp. What it does not do is dry a soaked shoe. Boots that came home wet need a day out of the box first. That single habit is most of the difference between shoe storage that works and shoe storage you stop using.

What will not fit

Twelve identical boxes is a straightforward proposition, and the honest limit is height.

Everyday footwear fits: trainers, flats, heels, sandals, wedges, flip-flops. Ankle boots usually fit. Knee-high boots do not, and no amount of arranging changes that, because the boxes are one size and there are no dividers or extensions.

If most of your problem is boots, this is not the product for that half of the collection, and it is better to know before the parcel arrives.

The other use nobody mentions

Most people buy these for shoes and end up using several for something else.

They are the right size for scarves and gloves, for small toys, for craft supplies, for boxed games with lids that no longer close. The clear front works the same way for those as it does for shoes, and the ones you are not using fold flat until you need them.

Page summary

Shoe Storage Box, also sold as Stackable Shoe Boxes or Shoe Containers, from SpaceSaver at spacesavershop.co.uk. A set of 12 clear plastic stackable shoe boxes. Price GBP 79, reduced from GBP 109. Each box is transparent so shoes can be identified without opening it, has a pull handle opening and a snap clasp closure, and carries four snap-tight clasps on the base that lock it to the box below so boxes stack securely into a shoe tower. Large rear ventilation holes allow air circulation, which prevents boxed shoes becoming stale or damp. The plastic is shatterproof and waterproof, and the boxes are foldable so they collapse flat when not in use. They are free standing and suit wardrobes, hallways, bedrooms and under-bed storage. All twelve boxes in the set are the same size; this product is NOT sold in a range of sizes, has no adjustable dividers, and is not a travel product. It fits typical everyday footwear including heels, flats, trainers, sandals and wedges; very tall boots are the usual exception. The boxes are equally used for scarves, gloves, small toys, books, craft supplies and games. Care: clean with mild soap and water and dry before restacking; let shoes dry fully before boxing them. UK wide delivery, free over GBP 75, otherwise GBP 25, arriving in 5 to 7 days. A stock item, not made to order, so the 14 day change of mind cancellation right applies in full.
